A mother is demanding justice after her son was stabbed at a bar in Fort Lauderdale last week, and he is now fighting for his life.
NBC6 spoke with Margarita Wray on Wednesday, who said her son is on life support after the brutal stabbing, which police said happened at a Blue Martini on East Sunrise Boulevard.
Margarita Wray was overwhelmed with emotion.
“Eighty percent of his brain is dead,” Wray said. “I want to take my son home so bad.”
Wray now has to decide whether or not to take her son off life support.
“I have to make a decision to pull the plug, but I’m so scared to do that,” she said. “I just feel like he’s gonna come back home.”
Fort Lauderdale Police said her son, who she identified as 49-year-old Clinton, was stabbed multiple times on Thursday inside Blue Martini.
Investigators said his alleged attacker was 52-year-old Lawrence Edmonson, who was charged with attempted premeditated murder.
“Why? Why did you do that?” Wray said. “It’s my baby, my son. He was the one taking care of me. I don’t have that no more.”
According to an arrest report, police said witnesses saw the suspect and the victim arguing inside the bar, and then the argument turned to a fight.
At some point, police said Edmonson went out to his car, got a knife, and stabbed the victim multiple times.
Witnesses said the suspect kept stabbing him even after he collapsed.
“I want to see justice,” Wray said. “I want to see justice for my son.”
Edmonson appeared in bond court last week, where his family asked the judge for leniency.
“He is an amazing person,” Edmonson’s family said. “He has four children that he takes care of. He is other than this incident, a very joyful, loving person to our entire family.
The suspect entered a plea of not guilty.
In court, his attorney asked for a bond, but the judge denied it.
“Given the nature of the charge, the allegation, the court has to take those things in consideration,” the judge said. “Community safety, victim safety. At this time, I am going to hold you without bail”.
Edmonson is being held at the Broward Jail.
NBC6 has reached out to Blue Martini for a statement, but hasn’t heard back.
Edmonson’s attorney released the following statement:
“On behalf of my client, we send our sincere condolences to those affected. Because this is an open and active investigation, we’re still trying to determine how this incident played out.
“What I can tell you is that my client sustained injuries as a result of what transpired and left the scene solely to seek necessary medical treatment at the hospital. We ask that the investigative process proceed and that judgment be reserved until the facts are fully developed.”
