Levain Bakery

Cookie lovers in the city, do we have news for you! Levain Bakery, the beloved New York City spot famous for its ooey-gooey cookies, is planning to open its first Miami location right in the heart of Coconut Grove.

Founded in 1995 by Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald, Levain started as a bread-focused bakery (borrowing the French word for “leavened bread”) in the Upper West Side before becoming known for its hefty, six-ounce cookies. It has even garnered high-profile fans like Taylor Swift, Giada De Laurentiis, Oprah Winfrey and Kylie Jenner. And judging by the looks of them, there’s no doubt as to why. These roundels are crispy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside!

“Because the way you feel when you’re carrying a box of freshly baked chocolate chip and walnut cookies that are each THE SIZE OF YOUR FIST is worth the journey. Then you bite into them and you realise that this moment was destiny,” Swift wrote about the bakery in Glamour magazine.

Customers can choose from a wide range of flavors, including the classic chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate peanut butter chip and oatmeal raisin, as well as a nut-free two chip chocolate chip one and a gluten-free chocolate chip walnut. There’s also coffees, teas and fresh pastries like blueberry muffins, chocolate chip banana bread and sweet or savory brioche buns.

It is a bakery, after all, so it is known to serve baguettes, boules and other breads.

Where and when to get your cookie fix

While no specific date has been set for its arrival, Levain confirms its Coconut Grove shop will reside at 2979 McFarlane Road, right by The Salty. A spokesperson confirmed the news with WhatNow Miami earlier this year, stating, “Levain Bakery, a 30-year-old bakery renowned for its big, beloved cookies will open in Coconut Grove, Florida this fall.”
