There might not be a better art-rock band working in the Tampa Bay area right now.
On its latest single, “Standing in the Street, Staring at the Stars,” Sarasota quartet The Tilt Orchestra channels the energy of a David Byrne show into two chaotically-joyful minutes that harkens back to the golden age of pre-algorithmic indie-pop that actually pushed boundaries and made people go to the dance floor.
A May offering, “13,000 Crows, Iridescent,” leaned heavier on synth and Zaeta’s ghostly vocal, and set the table for a new album released last July.
This weekend, The Tilt (apparently the “Orchestra” is silent), plays this gig where proceeds “will be donated directly to Amnesty International, with additional presentations from the Tampa Immigrants’ Rights Committee affiliates on 287g’s effects on anti-ICE action.”
