A high-energy concert photograph showing DJ Chemical Lex performing live at Crowbar in Ybor City, Florida, on December 14, 2024. Captured in a wide profile shot from behind the DJ booth against a graffiti-painted brick wall, Chemical Lex wears headphones resting around their neck and a dark t-shirt while raising one arm in the air and operating a illuminated DJ controller console. Bright green overhead stage lights and warm orange light trails illuminate the dynamic night, with a dancing crowd visible in motion blur in the background.Chemical Lex plays Crowbar in Ybor City, Florida on Dec. 14, 2024. Last May, the Tunnel Vision crew paid homage to the house that Peter Gatien built.

For its next installation the series exploring the culture at some of dance music’s most iconic addresses turns its gaze to The Motor Lounge, a Detroit hotspot that brought techno into its adolescence after the city birthed it in the ’80s.

Expect to hear a lot of ghettotech at this tribute to a club that lasted six years (an eternity in the rave scene!) and was once named the best club in America by Urb magazine.

There’s no cover to see Verndelarosa, Newagetension, and Chemical Lex b2b Ron Mercy at The Bends in St. Petersburg on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Pitch in to help make the Tampa Bay Journalism Project a success.
