TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A 12-year-old Griffin Middle School student was arrested on Thursday for “possession of a weapon on school grounds,” according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
LCSO said school administrators and a resource deputy found a “black metal BB gun inside [the student’s] backpack” after receiving a tip that the 6th grader may have a firearm on school grounds.
The student faces a charge of possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds and was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center, according to the sheriff’s office.

About a year ago, a 13-year-old Griffin Middle School student was arrested for bringing a loaded handgun to campus.
That student was charged with felony possession of a weapon on school grounds and possession of a weapon by a minor, among other charges.
LCSO encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their kids about the “serious consequences of bringing weapons to school and the importance of maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.”
