The Jacksonville Police Department says they will host a free BikeSafe Rider Skills Day beginning at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Department of Public Safety.
The program, offered in partnership with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, allows motorcyclists to receive an assessment of their current riding skills and professional feedback intended to improve safety.
“The BikeSafe program offers motorcyclists in Jacksonville a hybrid educational experience with the opportunity to provide individual feedback on road performance from our certified assessors,” Police Chief Ashley Weaver said.
According to officials, participants must register by Wednesday, Aug. 26. All registrants must have a valid motorcycle endorsement or learner’s permit, and their motorcycle must be insured.
The Jacksonville Police Department has participated in BikeSafe since 2010 and has four certified assessors. Sgt. James Smallwood serves as the department’s BikeSafe site coordinator.
