Multiple dogs were killed and one was resuscitated after a fire broke out at a Hollywood apartment building on Thursday, officials said.
Crews responded to the fire at a three-unit building in the 1900 block of Rodman Street, Hollywood Fire officials said.
The fire was extinguished but around 10 dogs were found dead, officials said. One dog was resuscitated by firefighters through CPR.
The owner said two of the dogs had recently had puppies so there were actually 12 that died.
“It was a normal day. I took my kids to school, went to work and said goodbye to my babies. Then I got a call that smoke was coming from my home,” Andrea Santos said. “I was like, oh my God, my dogs, and I just flew over here.”
Santos said the dog that survived was taken to an emergency veterinarian and was in an oxygen chamber.
“I’m upset because I would give up anything for them,” she said.
One of the units suffered fire and smoke damage, and the other two also suffered smoke damage.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
