Clermont Mayor Tim Murry is the Grand Marshal of the celebration Saturday in the Central Florida city.
The city of Clermont is striking up the band and preparing for extensive Veterans Day celebrations as the Central Florida town gears up for the event.
The Annual Veterans Day Parade and Tribute Ceremony will take place throughout much of the day Saturday in Clermont, three days ahead of Tuesday’s formal Veterans Day holiday. The multi-hour event will take place at the Highlander Building & Pavilion, 330 Third St. in Clermont.
Multiple veterans’ organizations, along with Clermont Main Street businesses, are helping to host the event for veterans and their families. The event begins at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, with a parade that marches down Montrose Street into downtown Orlando, just west of the city.
“Veterans Day is a time for all Americans to pause, reflect and honor those who have stood in defense of our nation, said Robert Mock, a 28-year U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the South Lake Florida Base of U.S. Submarine Veterans.
Clermont Mayor Tim Murry, himself a 22-year military veteran, is the event’s grand marshal. He’ll deliver opening remarks during the Veterans Tribute Ceremony. That event takes place at noon at the Highlander Pavilion and will feature a rendition of “Echo Taps,” patriotic music, and an honor guard firing a rifle salute.
“Clermont’s veterans are a source of pride and inspiration,” Murry said. “This community is grateful for their courage, sacrifice and enduring service to our nation.”
The event rundown also includes a car show and judging for awards, which begins at 2 p.m. A kids’ play zone will be available, and Clermont first responders will also be honored during the day. Additional activities will include displays, raffles, food trucks and more. The proceeds from the events of the day will go to Clermont’s Veterans and First Responder Memorial.
