HCA Florida Healthcare plans to invest an estimated $300 million to build a full-service hospital in Cape Coral, bringing a second hospital to the region’s most-populated city and expanding competition in Southwest Florida’s healthcare market.
HCA Florida Cape Coral Hospital will be built at 322 SW Pine Island Road, where the company currently operates a freestanding emergency room. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the hospital scheduled to open in 2029. It would become the 19th hospital in HCA Healthcare’s West Florida Division.
The three-story hospital is planned for approximately 200,000 square feet. Its first phase would include up to 100 acute-care beds, an emergency department, operating rooms and a cardiac catheterization lab. HCA also plans surgical, cardiovascular, imaging, inpatient and outpatient services, with room for future expansion.
“Building HCA Florida Cape Coral Hospital is an important step in HCA Florida Healthcare’s broader strategy to expand access to care in Lee County,” said Jyric Sims, president of HCA Healthcare West Florida Division.
Sims said the hospital is part of a regional expansion that includes HCA Florida Lehigh Hospital, HCA Florida West Fort Myers Emergency and the planned HCA Florida Alico Emergency.
Cape Coral Mayor John Gunter said attracting a second hospital has been a priority as the city grows.
“My focus has been on developing a partnership, establishing economic development opportunities and jobs, while finding a solution to broaden our emergency and acute care for our residents,” Gunter said.
HCA officials said Cape Coral’s growth is increasing demand for healthcare services and patient choice.
