Something exciting is happening at Key Biscayne K-8 Center, and the whole community is driving it.
Over the past several months, the PTSA and School Administration, led by Principal Evie Mayor and our newly arrived Assistant Principal, Giuseppe Semeraro, have led a remarkable collaborative effort, with strong support from the Educational Advisory Board, now led by longtime residents Robert Duzoglou, to shape a bold vision for KBK8’s future. Built from years of listening, 255 families responded to a recent parent survey. With a 32% response rate, this collaboration reflects a community that refuses to settle for “good enough.”
This kind of alignment doesn’t happen often, and it’s already translating into real strides toward a stronger, more responsive public school for every family on the island. Special thanks go to Principal Mayor, and the PTSA, whose tireless work behind the scenes has turned conversations into real momentum, backed every step of the way by the dedication of the Educational Advisory Board. As Vice Mayor, I have had the privilege of working with, and witnessing firsthand, these incredibly dedicated groups working together.

KBK8 has always been the jewel of Key Biscayne, the single biggest reason so many families choose to call our island home. With school capacity for more than 1,200 students, and room to grow well beyond today’s enrollment, the opportunity ahead is enormous and the excitement building around the 2026–2027 school year reflects just how much promise lies ahead.
There’s more on the horizon with new digital storytelling programming, collaborations with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center and the Islander News on young journalist programming, enhancements to our STEM and computer labs, expanded after-school activities led by local teachers, a refreshed school brand and communications and new investment in teacher support, creativity and environmental programming. And that’s just the beginning.
All of this is still coming together, but the momentum is real. Our school needs the continued support of this community, and of the Village Council, to carry that momentum to truly exceptional heights. The energy is palpable, and our teachers are ready and eager to make it happen.
This is public education the way it should work, built by the people it serves, which means it works best when every family is part of it. Parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends of KBK8, stay engaged, ask questions, and get involved. Your voice, your energy, and your presence are what turn a strong school into an exceptional one.
