TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said multiple people were arrested early Saturday morning in a “coordinated” street takeover in Tampa.
At around 12:30 a.m., troopers responded to an industrial complex in the area of US-301 and Columbus Drive, where they say they found a large gathering of cars in a warehouse parking lot performing doughnuts, burnouts and drifting, with pedestrians spectating.

According to an affidavit, the cars started fleeing once they saw law enforcement, but troopers were able to position their cars at the only exit/entrance to the commercial complex to prevent the suspects from leaving.
Records show majority of the people arrested are in their late teens and early 20s, with many of them charged with unlawful racing on a highway while engaged in a coordinated street takeover.
One driver was also charged with aggravated battery on law enforcement after ramming into a patrol car, officials say.
No injuries were reported, and troopers say the vehicles were towed and impounded for 30 business days in accordance with Florida Statute.
