On Saturday night the Miami Marlins completed a come from behind win, scoring five runs in the final two innings to beat the Cincinnati Reds. That win evened up the series between the two clubs. This afternoon they’ll wrap things up with the finale at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40pm ET.

Nick Lodolo
After missing a month while dealing with a blister issue, Lodolo returned to the mound earlier this week against the White Sox. He gave up four runs on five hits – including three homers – but the Reds did win that game in extras.
The splits against Lodolo aren’t big this year, but they are unexpected. Teams don’t put many left-handed hitters out there to face him but the ones that do get into the batters box find plenty of success. They are hitting for a very high average and they walk plenty. They aren’t hitting for much power, though. Righties are hitting for a good average against him and they are hitting for plenty of power when they do get hits against him.

Eury Perez
The first 10 starts for Perez this season did not go well. His ERA was 5.33 on the year by then and he had battled some control issues. In the 11 starts since then he’s posted a 1.82 ERA, stopped walking hitters, and he’s given up just three home runs in 64.1 innings. He faced the Reds on April 8th and Cincinnati scored four runs (two earned) against him in a game that Miami won.
Perez has reverse splits. He’s been solid against right-handed hitters. They don’t hit for much average, but when they do get a hit they show off a good amount of power. Left-handed hitters don’t hit for any average and they don’t hit for any power. They do walk at a solid rate against him, though.

Matt McLain passes Brandon Phillips for a new record
McLain certainly isn’t the hitter that Phillips was while with the Reds, and he’s probably not the defender, either. But McLain is a good defender and he’s about as sure handed as it gets, too. Last night was his 108th consecutive game without an error, which set a new franchise record for second baseman – passing up Phillips.
Rehabbing Reds
Tony Santillan and Brandon Williamson are both scheduled to pitch on Sunday in Louisville. Santillan is expected to start the game before giving way to Williamson.
