A Wilton Manors man is facing a third-degree felony charge after he allegedly pulled a gun on an Amazon delivery driver who he thought was stealing a package from him, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the Amazon driver was making several deliveries at the Manor Grove Apartment complex in the 1900 block of North Andrews Avenue, according to the affidavit.
The driver placed a package in front of George Mandes’ apartment, then picked it up a moment later after realizing he delivered it to the wrong apartment number, the affidavit said. Surveillance footage showed the driver walking out of the camera’s view with the package, heading toward a unit a few doors away. He then dropped off the package at the correct apartment.
The driver later told police that once he got back to his van, Mandes approached him and accused him of taking his package, the affidavit said. Mandes, 57, allegedly took a small black handgun out of his waistband and pointed it at the driver.

Wilton Manors Police first responded to the call as an armed robbery, according to a news release issued by the department last week. When officers arrived, it “escalated into a barricaded subject” inside one of the apartment units.
Residents in the complex were told to stay inside for several hours as Fort Lauderdale Police SWAT officers and crisis negotiators were at the scene “due to the heightened threat,” according to the news release.
Mandes’ statements to police are redacted in the court document. He allowed officers to search his apartment, including the safe where they recovered the gun, the affidavit said.
He faces one count of aggravated assault with a firearm and was released from jail after posting bail. As of Monday evening, he had not yet entered a plea to the charge.
