A suspect in a deadly shooting in Metrowest earlier this year will be returned to Orlando to face charges after he was arrested in Tampa, the Orlando Police Department announced Tuesday.
Alan Florvilus, 24, is accused of first-degree murder in the March 4 shooting that ended with the killing of 23-year-old Howard Bennett in the parking lot of The Palms Club apartment complex on Metrowest Boulevard near Kirkman Road, OPD said in a news release.
Investigators allege Bennett called Florvilus to join him in an ongoing dispute with a third man — who later suffered a gunshot wound — that began the night before. At some point during the altercation, Bennett tried to pull out his gun on the victim, who then got out his own gun and shot Bennett, killing him.
It’s not clear what prompted the feud between the two men.
The victim, whom the Orlando Sentinel isn’t naming because he was the target of a crime, was then shot by Florvilus with a rifle retrieved from an apartment, according to OPD. He is not facing charges after surviving the shooting, as OPD determined Bennett’s death was a “justifiable homicide.”
Florvilus was arrested in Tampa by the U.S. Marshals Service and is slated to be returned to Orlando.
No other details were provided, and an affidavit that could offer further information has not been released.
