A snorkeling trip in St. Petersburg, Florida, took an unexpected turn when two swimmers encountered an injured cormorant in the water.Margarita Landry was snorkeling with her best friend when they noticed the bird swimming unusually close to them before climbing onto a nearby rock.The pair initially continued observing the cormorant, but soon noticed what appeared to be injuries near its tail. They then contacted Birds in Helping Hands for guidance on how to safely assist the bird.Following the advice they received, Margarita and her friend used a towel to carefully wrap the cormorant and carry it from the water to the shoreline. They kept the bird on the towel while waiting for a wildlife rescuer to arrive.About 20 minutes later, a rescuer named Thomas arrived and used a net to safely capture the cormorant. The bird was placed in a carrier and taken away for further care.
