MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — An intoxicated driver was arrested after left a hit-and-run crash in Martin County and fled from deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Ariel Simon Bamaca Camey, 27, caused “some serious chaos” on Saturday, when he crashed into a car along SE Dixie Highway.

Bamaca Camey then left the distressed victim in the roadway, so MCSO said she reported the crash.

Deputies searched for a white pickup truck with heavy damage to the front and quickly found the suspect, according to MCSO.

Body camera video shows Bamaca Camey fleeing once he noticed deputies, but MCSO said he was stopped less than a mile away.

When deputies asked him to get on the ground after he exited the truck, Bamaca Camey did not comply, according to video.

He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving damage, fleeing and eluding, driving without a valid license and DUI. MCSO said he was never issued a valid Florida driver’s license.

He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he remains on an Immigration Customs Enforcement detainer.
