Stove sparks apartment fire at Stuart 55+ community; no injuries reported

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that broke out inside a Stuart 55+ community Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Martin County Fire Rescue and Stuart Fire Rescue crews responded to The Sovana at Stuart 55+ apartment community shortly before 2 p.m. after a fire started inside an apartment near a resident’s stove.

When crews arrived, the third-floor apartment and hallway were filled with smoke.

Firefighters quickly evacuated the building and worked to extinguish the flames.

The fire was contained to the apartment where it started, and no other units were burned, officials said.

No one was hurt or taken to the hospital.

Crews from Ladder 23, Engines 16 and 18, Rescues 14, 18 and 161, and Battalion 2 responded to the fire.
