WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A girl was finally released from a Florida hospital after she suffered severe burns on over 50% of her body after she got into a fiery crash in January.

According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, an 11-year-old girl named Abigail “Abi” Alcenat was released from the Miami Burn Center at Ryder Trauma while she was cheered on by a crowd of firefighters, hospital staff and friends.

Abi has been recovering in the hospital since January after she got into a crash on Belvedere Road near Jog Road.

Firefighters from PBCFR quickly responded to the scene to find the vehicle she was in on fire and quickly pulled her out to safety. The fire department says she was treated on the scene and taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center; she was then flown down to Miami’s Burn Center.

PBCFR says Abi sustained burns on about 58% and has made a remarkable recovery since the crash.

The fire rescue says firefighters have built a relationship with Abi and her family, following up with them over the months and keeping her spirits high while she was in recovery.
