DAYTONA, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida man is behind bars after authorities say he fled a traffic stop by the Florida Highway Patrol and later carjacked a woman who was stopped at a red light in Daytona.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect entered Volusia County on I-95 after fleeing FHP. Authorities say he attempted to carjack one vehicle before stealing a car from a woman stopped at a red light.
VSO says the stolen vehicle’s license plate was entered into a law enforcement system. Flock cameras later detected the plate, alerting authorities that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on State Road 44. A pursuit began, with the suspect, identified as Scott Taylor, reaching speeds of about 137 mph.

Authorities say Taylor crossed into oncoming traffic on State Road 44, crashed, abandoned the vehicle, and took off running. Traffic camera footage shows the vehicle speeding into oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the road while being pursued by law enforcement. Authorities later learned Taylor had crashed into two vehicles while attempting to flee.
Body camera footage shows multiple law enforcement officers taking Taylor to the ground before placing him in handcuffs.
Deputies say he faces multiple charges from FHP, VSO, and the Ormond Beach Police Department.
