JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County — Congressman Greg Murphy joined families, veterans and advocates in Jacksonville for a rally calling for justice for people impacted by the Camp Lejeune water contamination.
Murphy said thousands of service members, military families and civilian employees were exposed to contaminated drinking water at Camp Lejeune over several decades.
He said many of those families are still waiting for their claims and cases to be resolved.
The Camp Lejeune Justice Act allows certain people who were exposed to contaminated water at the base to seek compensation for illnesses and other harm tied to that exposure.
Murphy called the law an important step toward accountability, but said more work remains.
“As the Congressman representing Camp Lejeune, I will continue standing with the veterans, service members, and families who have been affected by this contamination,” Murphy said in a social media post.
Murphy added that the federal government has a responsibility to follow through for those who served and their families.
He also thanked those who attended the Jacksonville rally for continuing to bring attention to the issue.
Thousands of claims have been filed under the Camp Lejeune Justice Act as veterans, former base workers and military families continue seeking compensation related to exposure to contaminated water.
