CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested on a battery charge and terminated from the agency following an incident investigated by the sheriff’s office, according to Sheriff David Vincent.
Vincent discussed the case in a video released by CCSO, detailing the circumstances that led to the deputy’s arrest and subsequent firing.
The video includes surveillance footage tied to the incident as Vincent describes what investigators determined happened and the steps the agency took afterward.
According to Vincent, the investigation resulted in the deputy being charged with battery. The deputy was also terminated from employment with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
Vincent said the case was handled as a criminal matter and referenced the State Attorney’s Office for Florida’s Fifth Judicial Circuit while explaining the process surrounding the arrest.
The sheriff said the actions taken in the case reflect the standards expected of CCSO employees and the agency’s responsibility to hold its own personnel accountable.
The former deputy now faces the battery charge stemming from the incident.
