Jacksonville Elementary School, which has been closed since Wednesday for professional mold cleaning, will remain closed Monday, Aug. 24, and Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Last week, a staff member raised concerns about possible mold in the building, according to a district spokeswoman, prompting environmental testing. The tests revealed elevated mold levels in a classroom, the media center and the nurse’s office.
A message sent to families and staff Tuesday afternoon originally said that Jacksonville Elementary School would be closed Wednesday through Sunday and the district anticipated reopening the building on Monday. Students’ absences have been excused during the closure, but families also have had the option of alternative instruction at a site on the Jacksonville High School campus.
Located at 2400 Linda Lane, the $18.5-million elementary school opened less than five years ago, in January 2022. Its 2025-26 enrollment was 687, according to Arkansas Department of Education data.
