TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida anglers looking for a new reason to get out on the water have a fresh way to celebrate their biggest freshwater catches.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is inviting anglers of all ages and experience levels to explore the state’s freshwater fishing opportunities through its Big Catch program, a family-friendly angler recognition effort.
Big Catch encourages anglers to enjoy the diversity of freshwater fish found across Florida. Anglers can choose from more than 30 eligible freshwater species and earn recognition by catching a fish that meets or exceeds a qualifying length or weight.
To participate, anglers must catch a qualifying fish using an active hook-and-line method, take a photo of the catch and submit it to receive recognition and a printable certificate.
Youth anglers are also encouraged to take part, with easier qualifying sizes available for anglers under 16.
FWC said Big Catch recently updated its website with a new look aimed at making participation easier and helping anglers find their next freshwater catch, including more information on how to target each species. Additional updates are expected, including new recognitions and prizing.
