Cape Coral is making strides to improve safety, connectivity and accessibility for residents with new sidewalks throughout the city. The city is currently working on installing several sidewalks, making everyday activities like walking the dog or fetching mail safer for everyone.

Cape Coral’s ongoing sidewalk program has already seen sidewalks installed on Chiquita Boulevard and Nelson Road for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. Other locations are in progress or under design, as shown on the map below created by the city.

Cape Coral boosts safety with new sidewalks on several busy roads

Embers Pkwy will receive four total miles of sidewalk across multiple segments. Orchid Blvd/SE 46th Street will receive 0.27 miles. SW 22 Street Terrace will receive 0.48 miles. Ceitus Parkway will get 1.1 miles and El Dorado Boulevard will get one mile.

Rafael Gell, a resident on Embers Parkway, emphasized the need for sidewalks in his neighborhood.

“This sidewalk is really needed in our neighborhood because it’s a busy road,” said Gell. “This is a busy street, and for those of us who often go out just to come to the mailbox to pick up our letters and mail, we have to be careful, because sometimes cars get very close and it’s very dangerous for us.”

Gell emphasized the danger for children coming home from school.

“The school buses drop the children off about a block from here from where I am right now,” said Gell. “They drop them off, and the children have to walk along the median between the two streets because that’s the only way. It’s the only space they have to walk.”

Another street on the list for a new sidewalk is Southwest 32nd, but the city is still awaiting funding for it.

According to the city of Cape Coral website, all sidewalk construction projects are grant-funded from a variety of different sources. Construction is typically completed along multi-lane roads. However, some neighborhoods with two-lane roads have received sidewalks, typically around a school.
