MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A routine traffic stop turned into a police search in northwest Miami-Dade, with officers looking for a person they say could be connected to a homicide Friday night.
Authorities said the traffic stop started just before 6 p.m. near Northwest 88th Street and 12th Avenue, when a Miami Police Department officer attempted to pull over a car with four people inside.
They said the driver sped away. Three people eventually got out of the vehicle and tried to run, but police caught them.
Police confirmed that the fourth person remains at large.
A helicopter spent a couple of hours circling over nearby homes as officers searched the area.
Officers later left the intersection, but it was not immediately clear whether the search was still underway.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office are assisting Miami police with the search.
Police told Local 10 News that the traffic stop was related to a previously reported MPD case involving the vehicle. Authorities later said the people inside the vehicle may also be connected to a homicide investigation.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
