A mother and her toddler son died Sunday after being struck by lightning in Margate, police said.
Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue responded to a 911 emergency call regarding the mother and child who were reportedly struck by lightning, and found them lying on a sidewalk.
Margate Police said they immediately began rendering aid, including CPR, upon arrival. The 40-year-old adult female, Kenya Glasgow, was transported by Margate Fire Rescue to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach. Her 2-year-old son was transported by Margate Fire Rescue to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, accompanied by a police escort.
“Despite the life-saving efforts of first responders and medical personnel, both victims (mother and son) were pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospitals,” Margate police said.
According to Margate Police, the lightning strike occurred in a residential area of Margate at 7914 Northwest 1st Street at 2:30 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the Margate Police Department.
