The Miami Marlins’ Kyle Stowers hoped his time being sidelined with his latest hamstring injury would be brief.
That turned out to be the case.
The Marlins plan to reinstate Stowers from the 10-day injured list on Monday before their series against the Boston Red Sox, a source confirmed to the Miami Herald on Sunday night. The team optioned first baseman Deyvison De Los Santos to Triple A Jacksonville postgame Sunday, opening the space on the active roster for Stowers’ return.
Stowers landed on the injured list Aug. 11 with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain sustained two days in Miami’s 12-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Should he return Monday as expected, he will have missed only 12 games.
It was Stowers’ second IL stint this season stemming from a hamstring issue. Stowers missed the first 21 games of the season because of a right hamstring strain sustained late in spring training.
Stowers said the injury this time around felt similar to the first one.
“Having gone through it, [there] just wasn’t a ton of ambiguity in what it was from my perspective,” Stowers said on Aug. 11. “I kind of knew right away that it was a strain.”
Stowers, who was an All-Star and a Gold Glove finalist in 2025, is hitting .242 with a .789 on-base-plus-slugging mark. His 16 home runs at the time of the injury were tied with Heriberto Hernandez for the team lead while his 21 doubles ranked third on the club. He has not gone longer than four games without a hit this season.
Meanwhile, Stowers has shifted from the outfield to being Miami’s primary first baseman with 43 of his 92 starts this season coming at the position.
While Stowers was sidelined, Griffin Conine made the majority of the starts at first base.
Stowers’ return will come with Miami still in the midst of a push for a playoff spot. Miami is 67-64 after sweeping the Washington Nationals this weekend and is four games back of the National League’s final wild card spot with 31 games left to play.
