MARGATE, Fla. (WKRC) — A mother and her 2-year-old daughter are dead after being struck by lightning in Florida Sunday, reports WFLA.

The Margate Police Department said emergency crews were called to NW 1st Street around 2:30 p.m., where they found the two victims lying on the sidewalk. The woman, identified as 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow was taken to Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, while her toddler was transported to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Police said despite lifesaving efforts, both Glasgow and her daughter were pronounced dead at the hospitals. The department says it’s investigating the incident.

“The Margate Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victims’ family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the department said in a press release.
