Cape Coral, Fla – On August 22, 2026, at approximately 7:55 AM, Cape Coral Police officers responded to a business in the 4500 block of Del Prado Boulevard South regarding a reported theft.
The reporting party told dispatchers he had gone inside the business for less than 10 minutes and returned to find his e-bike missing. He said the e-bike, a Cyrusher Hurricane valued at more than $1,500, had oversized tires and saddlebags containing approximately $800 worth of equipment used for his business.
While officers were on scene, a business employee told them he had gone looking for the stolen e-bike and encountered a man and woman approximately one block south, near 46th Street. The man was later identified as James Lovett (DOB 09/14/1975).
The employee asked Lovett and the woman if they had seen the stolen e-bike. Lovett asked whether there was a reward for finding it, and the employee told him there would be a $100 reward.
As officers were speaking with the reporting party and business employee, Lovett approached them and said he had found the e-bike. He was wearing a white tank top and white, red, and dark-colored pajama pants. Lovett told them the bike was in the 4500 block of SE 15th Avenue. The reporting party found the bike at that location and gave Lovett the $100 reward. Lovett left the area.
Another officer spoke with the woman who had been with Lovett. She told the officer that Lovett had approached her before the man arrived and asked if she would “party” or “hang out” with him if he could come up with $50. She declined. The woman said when the business employee approached them looking for the stolen e-bike, Lovett asked if there was a reward for finding it. After being told there was a $100 reward, Lovett walked in the direction of his residence.
Surveillance video from a nearby business showed the reporting party arriving at the business on his e-bike at approximately 7:46 AM. At approximately 7:49 AM, a man matching Lovett’s description, wearing a white tank top and white, red, and dark-colored pajama pants, walked toward the area where the e-bike had been parked. At approximately 7:50 AM, the same man was seen riding the e-bike away from the business in the direction from which he had originally come.
The woman who had been with Lovett positively identified him as the man shown in the surveillance footage.
Officers went to Lovett’s residence in the 4500 block of SE 14th Avenue, where they found him outside.
Lovett was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charge:
