A Brazilian doctor accused of opening other passengers’ luggage and taking their belongings at Miami International Airport was arrested on Sunday, authorities said.
Marcos Danilo Assuncao-Oliveira, 68, was charged with third-degree grand theft.
During his court appearance on Monday, a judge set his bond at $1,100.
According to authorities, on Friday, Assuncao-Oliveira was seen on surveillance video loitering in the area of the American Airlines baggage claim.
An arrest report said that Assuncao-Oliveira then started taking several pieces of luggage from different baggage carousels, opened them, took what was inside, and then placed the luggage back on the carousel.
Assuncao-Oliveira did that several times and then left the airport with the times he took from the luggage, the report said.
The amount he took in items was valued at about $1,350, the report said.
Assuncao-Oliveira was then found and arrested.
Authorities said Assuncao-Oliveira had no active flights with American Airlines in the last six months.
Three victims were identified, while others are pending identification.
Although the report lists him as homeless, records show Assuncao-Oliveira is a gynecologist with a private practice in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
