A man died on Saturday after he was shot in Fort Lauderdale during a dispute in which the shooter said he acted in self-defense, according to police.
Just after 8 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to the 2300 block of Northwest Ninth Court, where they found Alrick Francis, 59, of Fort Lauderdale, who had life-threatening injuries after being shot, police department spokesperson Casey Liening said.
Officers treated Francis until Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived and took him to Broward Health Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital later the same day, Liening said in an email Monday.
The man who shot Francis stayed at the scene and was detained there, according to Liening.
“The shooter was not arrested pending the outcome of a ‘stand your ground’ investigation,” Liening said Monday. “Preliminary investigation reveals a dispute between the two men led to the shooting.”
She did not provide further details about what led up to the shooting or release the name of the shooter.
Officers are still investigating.
