Felon accused of firing multiple rounds into backyard after hearing noise, SLCSO says

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A man is accused of firing multiple shots in his backyard in St. Lucie County, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

SLCSO says that on Tuesday, deputies received three separate calls regarding shooting activity at a residence near Langston Drive in Fort Pierce.

The investigation discovered that the shots came from Jernord R. Kirkland, 43, after he heard a noise outside of his residence and fired multiple rounds into his backyard, SLCSO said.

However, Kirkland’s defensive shots resulted in a much deeper problem than the noise he heard. SLCSO learned during the investigation that Kirkland is a convicted felon and prohibited from having firearms. Deputies recovered three firearms from Kirkland.

As such, he was arrested and brought to the St. Lucie County Jail on charges of possession of firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in public.
