Before Tropicana Field, there was the Gas Plant Neighborhood—a thriving Black community displaced in the name of progress. Razed shares the powerful first-hand stories of those who lost their homes and challenges us to consider the true cost of redevelopment.
The film is directed and produced by Andrew Lee and Tara Segall of Roundhouse Creative, in partnership with Gwendolyn Reese of the African American Heritage Association of St. Petersburg, and with support from the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg.
Following the screening, join filmmaker Andrew Lee for a panel discussion with Gwendolyn Reese (producer, historian, former resident, and cast member), Sandy Katz Brasch (daughter of the owners of Katz Grocery, a Jewish-owned business in the Gas Plant Neighborhood), and former resident Carlos Lovett as they reflect on the neighborhood’s legacy, the impact of displacement, and the importance of preserving community history.
