The move comes shortly after Miami added center Nick Richards on a one-year deal.
Richards gave the Heat their 14th player on a standard contract. Johnson’s two-way deal does not count toward that standard roster total.
Johnson stays in Miami
Johnson, 25, has spent the first two seasons of his NBA career with the Heat.
He originally joined Miami on a two-way contract in 2024 after going undrafted out of Arizona. The Heat later converted his deal to a standard NBA contract during his rookie season.
Johnson appeared in 32 games during the 2025-26 regular season and averaged 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.8 minutes per game, while shooting 49.0% from the field.
He has played 48 NBA games across his first two seasons.
Johnson, the 6-foot-6 forward, won the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest in Los Angeles after defeating San Antonio Spurs high-flyer Carter Bryant in the final round.
