An hour before Week 2 high school football games, most scheduled to start at 7 p.m., weather is threatening to get in the way.
A number of Seminole County schools were drenched by rain an hour or two before game time. The Hagerty at Winter Springs game is postponed to Monday.
Thunder is rumbling, mostly without rain, in downtown Orlando. It is raining in Lake Mary but so far the game matching 2025 state champ Rams against Oviedo is scheduled to go on time.
Tonight’s schedule has 39 games for Orlando area teams, including eight with Sentinel Super 16 teams playing at home. That includes No. 1 DeLand, which takes on the No. 2 team in the nation from Maryland. No. 2 Edgewater hosts No. 4 TFA.
Play began on Thursday, with Bishop Moore playing an underdog role as the visitor making a coast to coast trip to play a strong California team.

Thursday
Palos Verdes (California) 21, No. 7 Bishop Moore 18 (Final)
The Bishop Moore defense, led by Giacomo SanFilippo’s two sacks, held Palos Verdes scoreless in the second half, but a late rally by the offense was stuffed by the Sea Kings and Bishop Moore lost its second straight game to start the season.

Friday’s Super 16 Games
St. Frances (Md.) (0-0) at No. 1 DeLand (1-0)*
TOUCHDOWN: St. Frances bounces back with a rushing TD, cutting DeLand’s lead to 14-13.
TOUCHDOWN: DeLand retakes the lead with a 5-yard TD run by Gardner Nordman with 7:59 left in Q2. DeLand makes the 2-point conversion and leads 14-7.
End of 1st quarter: St. Frances 7, DeLand 6.
St. Frances bounces back with a touchdown and extra point to take a 7-6 lead over DeLand late in Q1.
St. Frances holds Deland to a 3-and-out to force a punt.
DeLand looking good again against national power early, forcing a 3-and-out on the strength of a sack by Jordan Banks. ‘Dogs lead 6-0.
DeLand takes a 6-0 lead over national No. 1 St. Frances on a 1-yard TD plunge from Taihj Moore with 6:39 left in Q1. The Bulldogs ran off more than five minutes on the game-starting drive.
DeLand gets the ball first.

St. Francis, which plays a national schedule outside the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association, is No. 2 behind IMG Academy of Bradenton in a composite On3 national ranking that includes four outlets — ESPN, MaxPreps, Massey, and Sports Illustrated. The Panthers were 9-1 last season with lopsided wins against two of Florida’s top teams in The First Academy, 37-0; and Chaminade-Madonna of Broward County, 42-13.

Edgewater quarterback Joe Aicher, who suffered a knee injury in a preseason game against Armwood, is in uniform and back tonight, cleared for takeoff.

TFA rallied to beat Edgewater in a 2024 game that was later forfeited due to FHSAA findings that the Royals violated rules. That was the first and only previous meeting. TFA is ranked ahead of the Eagles by MaxPreps as the No. 10 team in the state.

Remy Jarman throws a dart to Cole Emanuel for a touchdown but it is wiped out by a holding call. Nullifies Lake Mary would-be score.
Water break. Lake Mary quarterback Remy Jarman has completed his first three passes in his first drive as the starting quarterback after taking over for Noah Grubbs.
Oviedo faked the punt and picked up a first down in Lake Mary territory but the ball was coughed up and the Rams came up with the recovery. First down Lake Mary at their 29.
Oviedo won the coin toss and will receive.

6:12: It’s a little rainy but everything is fine otherwise as we get set for this Seminole County battle between the state champion Lake Mary Rams and Oviedo Lions.

Reigning state champ Lake Mary opens its season against a Seminole Athletic Conference rival. The Rams are 6-0 against Oviedo since the Lions blocked a field goal to win 22-21 in 2018. That included a playoff win in 2020.
Horizon (1-0) at No. 6 West Orange (1-0)

TOUCHDOWN: Ball is snapped over the head of Warriors QB Chung. He recovered and slings the ball 26-yards for a TD connection with receiver Mikel Victor. After offside penalty on the Hawks on the PAT, the Warriors go for two and failed to convert on a wide receiver reverse. Warriors lead 26-0 with 0.6 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
TOUCHDOWN: 49-yard touchdown strike from Chung to Taj Anderson, who makes a one-handed snag over the middle. Extra point is good. Warriors lead 20-0 with 3:36 remaining in the first quarter.

No. 8 Seminole (1-0) at No. 16 Lake Howell (1-0)

Lake Howell mishandles another punt snap. Only got off a punt out of bounds at around the line of scrimmage. Seminole takes over at Lake Howell’s 37 yard line.
Lake Howell got a first down, but then stalled and forced to punt again.
Seminoles take a 6-0 lead with 8:24 left in Q1 on a 21-yard TD pass from Daniel Proenza to Luis Ojeda-Robles.

This is the first meeting of these Seminole County teams since 2018. The Seminoles have won the past eight games vs. the SilverHawks (2008-18) but this Lake Howell squad may be its best in years.
Other big games
No. 9 Lake Nona (1-0) at East River (0-1)
This is the first meeting of these East Orange County teams since Lake Nona won 35-0 in 2021. The Lions lead the series 9-4.
Boone (1-0) at No. 10 Evans (0-1)
Evans scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to beat the Braves 19-17 in 2023 — the last time they met. Boone was 4-0 against the Trojans in sparse meetings from 2002 through 2022. Before that Evans won 19 in a row in the Metro Conference series.
No. 12 Windermere (1-0) at Innovation (1-0)
Windermere kept its 21-game win streak intact with a 29-26 Week 1 win vs. Winter Park. Innovation went 8-2 in its second year of football last season. Windermere topped the Bulls 40-6 in 2024 and 21-7 last year. These are two of the top-rated teams in the new FHSAA Independent League.
Leesburg (0-1) at No. 13 East Ridge (1-0)
This is the first meeting of teams on the opposite ends of Lake County since East Ridge outscored the Yellow Jackets 63-34 in 2017. The Knights are 7-0 against Leesburg — including a 49-48 win in 2012.
Lyman (1-0) at No. 14 Lake Brantley (1-0)
The Patriots routed Lyman 75-0 last year and are 38-4 in the Seminole County rivalry since 1982.
No. 15 St. Cloud (1-0) at Marietta (Ga.) (0-1)
St. Cloud football, which dates to the 1920’s, ventures outside Florida for the first time. Marietta is coached by Cam Duke, who compiled an 84-16 record at Edgewater before landing the lucrative Georgia job last season.

The Sea Kings were an 11-5 California Interscholastic Federation state champion in 2024 and are 32-10 since 2023. Bishop Moore lost an overtime heartbreaker, 28-25, against Hawthorne last week.
