Fort Lauderdale police are investigating after shots were reportedly fired early Saturday morning, prompting officers to block off a street for several hours as detectives examined the scene and spoke with neighbors.

Fort Lauderdale police are investigating after they said a person was seriously injured in a shooting early Saturday morning.

Police said they responded at approximately 3:45 a.m. to a shooting in the 1700 block of Northwest Ninth Street.

When officers arrived, they found a victim and immediately began providing aid until Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel arrived, police said.

They said the victim, who has not been identified at this time, was taken by trauma alert to Broward Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police initially blocked off nearby streets for several hours as detectives examined the scene, photographed evidence and spoke with neighbors about what they may have seen or heard before and after the shooting.

The scene is a few blocks north of Sunrise Boulevard and east of Interstate 95.
