WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The manhunt for a suspect involved in a collision with an FHP vehicle has been apprehended, according to a statement from Florida Highway Patrol.
On Thursday around 4:45 p.m., an FHP vehicle was involved in an accident near Bee Line Highway and Jog Road. The driver of the other vehicle crossed over the median and into the direct path of the trooper before the collision.
FHP says that the driver then fled the scene on foot for reasons that were unknown at the time of the collision, prompting an extensive manhunt with help from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department that blocked off the roadway.
The suspect, identified as Jacnel Thermutus, 29, was apprehended shortly after the manhunt was launched, FHP says, with the trooper sustaining minor injuries. The FHP vehicle itself has extensive damage to the driver side front bumper area and driver door.
In the end, the suspect was arrested, and turned over to ICE due to immigration status, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
