LEXINGTON, Ky. (August 30, 2026) – Paula Tomasa recorded a double-double to lead the University of South Florida volleyball team against Utah State on Sunday. Tomasa and Mora Pampin each posted double-digit kills, and the Bulls swept the Aggies 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19).
Tomasa posted a double-double with 13 kills and a career-high 10 digs. Mora Pampin recorded a career-high 10 kills. Nina Jioshvili-Ravva dished out 34 assists, marking her second match of the season with more than 30 assists. She also produced her second double-double of the season with 10 digs. Addy Brus collected a match-high 12 digs.
The Bulls held the Aggies to a hitting percentage of 0.098 for the match, the lowest of the season. South Florida combined for a .223 hitting percentage. Last season, Utah State reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. South Florida also held the edge in kills (43-36), digs (48-42), and service aces (3-1).
The match began as a back-and-forth battle. Utah State took a 19-17 lead late in the first set. The Bulls remained unfazed and went on an 8-4 run. Tomasa tallied a set-high six kills, while Jioshvili-Ravva dished out 13 assists.
Utah State outscored South Florida 9-4 to open the second set. The Bulls erased a 5-point deficit twice, tying the match at 16-16 midway through the set. South Florida capitalized on Ryelle Rondo’s strong serve, as Rondo held serve for five straight points, leading to a 20-16 lead for USF. The Bulls went on to win the second set 25-20.
The third set was a battle as the two sides traded points. Utah State took a two-point lead, 12-10, but South Florida fought back. Late in the third set, the Bulls rattled off three straight points to pull away to a 19-14 lead. South Florida closed out the third set and secured the match sweep over Utah State.

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her seventh season at the helm of her alma mater in 2026. Named head coach on January 8, 2020, as a player she helped lead the Bulls to two conference championships and a pair of NCAA tournament appearances. As head coach, she led the Bulls back to the NCAA Tournament in 2025 for the first time since she was a player in 2002 and guided USF to the 2024 AAC regular-season championship, earning her first Coach of the Year Honor. In 2023, the Bulls won the American Conference East Division, made a postseason appearance in the NIVC, and advanced to the Fab Four to mark the longest postseason run in program history.
