The Minnesota Timberwolves officially announced they waived John Konchar one day after acquiring him in a trade with the Utah Jazz.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Miami Heat could be a team to watch for Konchar.
Miami had real trade interest in the veteran when he was still with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Heat currently have an open roster spot and sit $2.5 million below their first apron hard cap.
Siegel noted it wouldn’t be surprising if Miami still had interest in Konchar.
Timberwolves quickly waive John Konchar
Konchar’s stay in Minnesota lasted less than two days.
The Timberwolves acquired him and Cody Williams from the Jazz in exchange for Josh Green and cash considerations.
Minnesota was expected to keep Williams and waive-and-stretch Konchar.
The move also allowed the Timberwolves to shed Green’s $14.7 million salary and create financial flexibility for Jonathan Kuminga.
Konchar had only recently joined the Jazz.
Utah had acquired him from Memphis in February as part of the Jaren Jackson Jr. blockbuster trade.
Konchar played 56 games for the Grizzlies and Jazz during the 2025-26 season and averaged 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.9 minutes per game.

Miami’s recent moves
Most notably, the Heat added Klay Thompson after he was waived by the Dallas Mavericks. Adding one of the best shooters in NBA history gives Miami much-needed spacing alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.
While Klay has taken a step down in his performance after his two major injuries, he is still a tremendous shooter who attracts the attention of defenses.
After adding Thompson, Miami signed center Nick Richards to a one-year deal, providing them another option behind Adebayo and Bobby Portis.
Finally, the Heat re-signed 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Keshad Johnson to a two-way contract.
