TAMPA, Fla. (August 31, 2026) – University of South Florida men’s soccer is ready to host UNF for the first time since 2017. The Bulls (1-2-0) welcome the Ospreys (0-2-1) to Tampa with a 4-0 record against them all-time.
 
Head coach George Kiefer is responsible for half of South Florida’s wins against UNF in program history, defeating them 2-0 in 2015 and 1-0 in 2016. Kiefer also defeated the Ospreys 1-0 in 2023 during his tenure at NC State, giving him a 3-0 all-time record against them.
 
Setting the Stage
South Florida has started the year 1-2-0 and is coming off a loss on the road in the War on I-4 against UCF. On the other side of the pitch, UNF has begun the season 0-2-1 and, in their last match, lost to an American Conference opponent in FAU. This is now back-to-back matchups in which South Florida is facing a team that faced the Owls in the match before taking on the Bulls.

Series History
South Florida is 4-0-0 against UNF in the all-time series record, with three of those wins at home in Tampa and one on the road in Jacksonville. The Bulls have allowed just one Osprey goal to enter the net across all of the matchups between these two squads, outscoring UNF 9-1. This is the first matchup between these programs since 2019, when the Bulls were victorious on the road in Jacksonville, 1-0.

About South Florida Men’s Soccer

The oldest varsity athletic program at South Florida, men’s soccer competed in the school’s first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.

The Bulls have claimed 14 conference championships and made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to the Elite Eight. The program boasts 31 MLS draft picks, including two-time MLS Golden Boot winner Jeff Cunningham, 1994 World Cup Team USA star Roy Wegerle, and 2013 MLS Cup winner Dom Dwyer. Three men’s soccer alumni and one coach have been inducted into the South Florida Athletics Hall of Fame: Fergus Hopper, Jeff Attinella, Jeff Cunningham & Dan Holcomb.

On Dec. 10, 2025, head coach George Kiefer was hired for his second tenure at South Florida. Kiefer previously led the Bulls from 2002-16, compiling one of the most successful stretches in program history as the Bulls went 162-86-51 (.627), earned four conference championships, and made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances. Under Kiefer, South Florida advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2008 and 2011. His six NCAA Tournament victories remain the most in program history, and his win total ranks second all-time among South Florida head coaches.
