TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A kitten named Zomboy is getting a second chance at life after veterinarians refused to give up on him.
The eight-week-old kitten arrived at the Leon County Humane Society in critical condition and barely breathing, according to the executive director of the Leon County Humane Society Lisa Glunt.
“I did not anticipate him making it,” said Glunt. “He was pale, he was in his final breaths.”
Glunt rushed Zomboy to Paws and Claws Veterinary Hospital, where veterinarians immediately began treatment.
Sara Hearn, an associate veterinarian, said she initially could not find a heartbeat.
“I didn’t hear a heartbeat, and so we were about to pronounce him dead, and all of a sudden he took one agonal breath,” Hearn said.
After hours of treatment, including blood transfusions, incubation and IV fluids, Zomboy’s heartbeat returned. “All of a sudden this faint little heartbeat came back,” Hearn said.
Hearn said Zomboy showed no signs of the permanent brain damage veterinarians initially feared.
Now healthy and happy, Zomboy has a new home with Paws and Claws staff member Sean McCaskey.
“He’s a sweet, cuddly little fluffball,” McCaskey said.
Glunt called Zomboy’s survival a reminder of why the humane society never gives up.
“The ones that we never forget are the ones that we got to too late and we couldn’t save, so to be able to see him like this today- he’s a miracle kitten,” she said.
