TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – Tampa Police have released video of an officer’s close call on I-275 last week.
While on a speed enforcement detail, a motorcycle officer was nearly hit Aug. 26 by a vehicle driven by a teenager near the Hillsborough Avenue exit.
The driver in a white Kia Soul is seen swerving around the police motorcycle and colliding with another vehicle.
When the officer attempts to stop the damaged Kia, the driver speeds off, the video shows.
He was later apprehended and placed under arrest for felony failing to elude an officer, police said.
“When you’re behind the wheel, drive like someone’s life depends on it, because it does!” the Tampa Police Department said on social media.
“For this teen driver, his reckless decision came with adult consequences: one felony and three misdemeanor charges.”
