South Florida Women’s Soccer Welcomes No.5 Wake Forest for Top-Five Showdown

TAMPA, Fla. (September 1, 2026) – The University of South Florida women’s soccer team returns home Thursday night for one of its biggest challenges of the season, welcoming No.5 Wake Forest to Corbett Stadium for a top-five showdown. 

Setting the Stage

The Bulls enter the matchup riding the momentum of their first win of the season, a 3-0 shutout victory over Stetson on Sunday. South Florida’s offense came alive in the win, with junior forward Sophia Cabral finding the back of the net twice, while Reese Rupe added her first collegiate goal. Cabral’s performance earned her honorable mention recognition in the American Athletic Conference’s weekly awards.  

The No.5 Demon Deacons enter Tampa with a 5-0 record and five consecutive shutouts, having yet to concede a goal this season. Following a 2-0 win over Portland on Saturday, Wake Forest became the only team in the nation with five wins and zero goals allowed. 

Series History

South Florida and Wake Forest are tied in the all-time series. The Bulls claimed the first meeting, a 3-2 victory in Winston-Salem in 2019, while the Demon Deacons earned a 1-0 victory in the most recent matchup in 2025.  Thursday’s matchup marks Wake Forest’s first-ever game at Corbett Stadium.

Note-A-Bulls

Sophia Cabral leads the Bulls with two goals and four points through the first four matches of the season.
Amelia Malkin and Maya Hindson have each tallied a goal this season. Malkin scored her first collegiate goal in the season opener against Gonzaga, while Hindson found the back of the net against Washington State. 
Sophomore goalkeeper Gaby Rourke recorded her first shutout of the season in Sunday’s 3-0 win at Stetson, helping the Bulls secure their first clean sheet of the 20206 campaign.

About South Florida Women’s Soccer

Chris Brown enters his third season as USF head coach after a record-setting debut in 2024, leading the Bulls to 12 wins and coaching both the American Athletic Conference Midfielder and Goalkeeper of the Year. South Florida produced six all-conference players. He recorded the most wins in a debut season with 12 wins. Brown followed that success by guiding the Bulls to a 9-8-3 overall record and a trip to the American Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals in 2025, as South Florida earned a first-round tournament victory and secured three selections to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Watch List entering 2026. Brown spent 17 years as associate head coach (2007–2023), helping USF to three American Athletic Conference titles, eight NCAA appearances, and a 10-year streak of 10+ win seasons. He coached USF’s first All-American, Evelyne Viens, now a Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist, and has developed multiple American Athletic Conference award winners. Players under his guidance hold most of the program’s records.
