TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Leon County families will be able to pick up free fresh produce and groceries Wednesday, Sept. 2, as the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Farm Share continue their partnership to support residents facing food insecurity and rising costs.
The distribution is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, 2825 Major James Morgan Way in Tallahassee. It will continue until approximately 10:30 to 11 a.m., or until supplies are exhausted.
The event comes as families adjust to the new school year and added expenses. Under Sheriff Walt McNeil’s leadership, the Sheriff’s Office has continued working with Farm Share to provide food and other essential resources directly to families in Leon County.
“Protecting and serving means being there for people in the moments when they need us most,” McNeil said. “Sometimes that means answering a call for help. Other times, it means making sure a family has food on the table. When we have an opportunity to help, we should.”
Farm Share is Florida’s largest independent food bank. The organization and the Sheriff’s Office have an ongoing partnership aimed at bringing fresh food and essential resources to communities where families are facing food insecurity and the increasing cost of everyday necessities.
At the last Farm Share distribution in June, approximately 300 families received food. Organizers said Wednesday’s event will again give families an opportunity to receive fresh produce and groceries at no cost.
