CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office cleared the scene at Pecan Grove Drive and Spencer Plantation Boulevard in the Oakleaf Plantation community after deputies said a standoff with a vehicular homicide suspect ended peacefully.

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said her office was called to assist the U.S. Marshals and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, deploying its SWAT team in the process. Investigators tracked the suspect, identified as Alexander Rivera-Russo, who had an active warrant for vehicular homicide, to a home off Vineyard Lane in the Oakleaf area.
After attempts to communicate with Rivera-Russo, authorities used gas to encourage him to exit the home. He ultimately surrendered and was taken to the Duval County Jail. No injuries were reported to deputies or the suspect.

Cook thanked residents who evacuated the area during the incident.
JSO said that on Jan. 2, Savana Pendarvis was driving on University Boulevard near St. Cecilia when her car was struck by Alexandra Rivera-Russo, 24, who was speeding. He rear ended her, pushing her into a utility pole and her car caught on fire.
Rivera-Russo got out of his car and ran away.
JSO said that he will face charges, including leaving the scene of a deadly accident and the agency said they are looking to see who may have helped him hide.
“We know this doesn’t take away the pain that Pendarvis’ family is feeling, and it doesn’t bring her back, but it’s a step toward justice,” JSO said.
