Three sheriff’s deputies were hospitalized Tuesday after being exposed to an unknown substance at the Orange County courthouse.
The deputies had just made an arrest at the courthouse when they found the substance on the person being arrested. The substance caused them to feel ill, and they were transported to a hospital as a precaution, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.
The first floor of the courthouse was evacuated while the Orlando Fire Department assessed the scene. The scene had been cleared as of 6 p.m., according to the fire department.
The sheriff’s office did not share the condition of the deputies, the nature of the substance or details about who was arrested.
