TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Crews are transforming part of the North Florida Wildlife Center into a pond for a flock of American flamingos.
The new exhibit is surrounded by native plants and trees.

The head of the North Florida Wildlife Center, Ryan Reines, said 18 flamingos will be brought here by the end of the year. He says this is the perfect time to showcase one of Florida’s most famous birds.
“We think this is going to be a really great time to bring these animal in, of course there is this huge effort that seems to be going on to have the Florida state bird changed to the American flamingo, which, I personally think is a fantastic idea and we’re really excited about this project,” Rienes said.

Construction began last week after a single donor decided to cover the costs. The Flamingo habitat will eventually be the first exhibit visitors see when they walk in.
