TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Humane Society of Tampa bay announced that one of 21 dachshunds rescued from a hoarding situation in Pinellas County last week welcomed puppies into the world.
The non-profit organization posted photos of the dachshund and her puppies on Facebook on Tuesday, saying they are “safe in foster care where they can recover and receive the love and care they deserve.”
The Humane Society said the dogs were originally transferred to the shelter from Pinellas County Animal Services on August 27.
Sherry Silk, the organization’s CEO, said the dogs arrived with thousands of fleas and rotten teeth among other health issues.
The Humane Society said “some of the dogs” are being made available for adoption, emphasizing the importance of a loving and patient home for their recovery. The puppies will be ready for adoption in the coming months.
“For many of them, so much of what we consider normal is completely new,” the Human Society said. “They’re discovering what it means to feel safe, be cared for, explore, play, and trust the people around them.”
