ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority is reaching another milestone before it launches the new Tampa Bay Ferry service.
The agency is receiving $850,000 in federal funds to build a dock in downtown St. Petersburg.
The permanent downtown St. Pete dock will go right in front of the Vinoy Hotel.
In the meantime, a temporary dock will be installed off Bayshore Drive in downtown St. Petersburg, across from Straub Park North.
It’s the same spot the Cross Bay Ferry used. Tampa, meanwhile, already has a dock built because of the former Cross Bay Ferry Service.
In April, the PSTA announced the purchase of two boats for its revamped ferry service.
The previous ferry service ended in April 2025. The previous Cross Bay Ferry operated with only one boat, which prevented it from running seven days a week.
The new Tampa Bay Ferry will operate all year round, seven days a week, with more daily trips between St. Pete and Tampa than the Cross Bay Ferry offered. A schedule has not yet been released, but the service is expected to begin before the end of the year. One-way tickets will cost $10.
