TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Leon County school’s Parent Teacher Organization is missing more than $26,000, and the group’s treasurer is now facing felony charges.
On Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit arrested 45-year-old Kimberly Colonna after an investigation into suspected financial fraud involving a local school PTO.
The Sheriff’s Office said it received a complaint Aug. 13 about suspected financial discrepancies involving the PTO’s business checking account. Detectives determined Colonna, who served as the organization’s treasurer and was an authorized signer on the account, issued multiple checks payable to herself.
Between August 2025 and July 2026, investigators said Colonna wrote checks to herself totaling $26,674.72. Detectives determined the money was used to help meet her personal financial needs, and said the checks were consistent with bank records obtained during the investigation.
Colonna was arrested and booked into the Leon County Detention Facility. The Sheriff’s Office said she is charged with organized scheme to defraud and grand theft over $20,000.
Colonna’s date of birth is May 21, 1981. Her listed charges include larceny/grand theft over $20,000 but less than $100,000 and fraud/swindle to obtain property $20,000 but less than $50,000.
